How to Make Comics

Have you read my comics yet? They're cool, aren't they? Well, now you can make your own comics, with this step-by-step guide of making a cartoon masterpiece!

Ok, first, let's talk about the Paint toolbar and what it is used for:

On the top left, we have the free-form select symbol. It lets you draw a line around an area that you want to copy, delete, move, flip, whatever. I generally don't use it for comics. Our next tool is the rectangular select. It is the same as the free-form select, but selects in rectangles only. I use this to copy sprites from sprite sheets. Once the rectangle is around the sprite you want to copy, right click and select copy. Pressing Ctrl and V at the same time will paste a copied image. The eraser is self-explanitory-it basically erases any mistakes you made. The fill-in color thingy fills in whatever color is currently being used in a select area. The eyedropper pulls a color from another object to let you use it in the bucket or pencil. The magnifying lets you zoom in for sprite alterations. Ignore the brush tools-I never use them! The text tool is very important, as it lets you write the dialogue for comics. The text color can be changed with the color toolbar. The line tool draws straight lines, and the curved line tool lets you curve the line you've drawn. Ignore the shape tools. Always use transparent (the bottom button) so that your text and copied sprites won't have a block of white surrounding them. Now that you're used to the tools of paint, let's get started on the comic! First, open up a window with The Spriter's Resource on it. To start your comic, you will need a backround. You can use a sprite backround, but here, I'll show you how to make a backround.

Using the line tool, first draw some lines, like in the picture. Then use the fill-in tool for the grass and sky. Now that you have your backround, let's get some sprites!

Here is the Nintendo section of The Spriter's Resource. Let's look at some Mario sprites for this comic.

Here is part of a Mario sprite sheet. Right-click and select Copy Image like in the picture. Now open up Paint and paste it into there. Now select the sprite you want and use the rectangular select to copy and paste it into the comic. Move it where you want it to be. It should look something like this:

It looks like there's a problem with the Mario sprite. It made all white transparent -including him! That can be fixed by zooming in and using the fill-in tool to make things white again. Now that that's fixed, let's add another sprite:

Now is the perfect time to add text. Use the text symbol to create a box in which you can write text. It should be like this:

Also add finishing touches like lines to show movement. That's one panel, now create the rest on your own! I hope this guide helped you!
