Google Earth Tour

Ah, Google Earth. One of the best tools ever created. Yes you can find your house and all the places you go to, but it can be used for a little something else. Today we will be going on a tour around the world, but no need to go anywhere-yes, this tour is right on the page. Hang on tight, 'cause here we go!

Our first stop is the great American wonder, the Statue of Liberty! Did you know that her index finger is 8 feet long? Well, now you do! Let's go to our next American destination, but now we are visiting a natural wonder...

Say hello to Niagara falls, the great rushing body of water sitting in the US! It has attracted countless daredevils to go over it in a barrel. And some of them even survived!

Now you see before you the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Look at the beauty of this structure! Now let's move on to a more natural wonder.

This is Matterhorn, a huge rock formation. Lots of people have tried to climb this, and a lot of them fail! Now let's take a journey to the United Kingdom as we witness a blast from the past:

Now in front of us is Stonehenge. Nobody knows who made this wonder. The rocks are huge-21 feet (6 meters) tall!

Everybody knows this one-it's Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world! It was discovered to be the tallest mountain in 1856, but nobody successfully climbed it until about 100 years later.
Next up is the canals of Venice, Italy. Can you believe there's 150 of them? And these canals have survived since the 5th century.

Let's stay in Italy and see another wonder-the Roman Colosseum. Here, slaves called gladiators fought each other and wild animals-to death. It was a very harsh time to be a slave.

This does look a little plain, but it's the great Sahara Desert! It used to be a grassy area, and it is still expanding.

Here we look at the wonder in Greece, the Parthenon on the Acropolis! It was built by Pericles to honor Athena, the goddess of wisdom and warfare.

This is the Grand Canyon, the big "bowl" in the United States. It was made by the Colorado River and stretches to 500 miles long!

This is the Taj Mahal, one of the greatest buildings ever. It looks spectacular in sunset and full moon too!

This is the Great Wall of China, obviously residing in China. Anybody who died during its construction was buried in the wall. It stretches to 6400 kilometers/4000 miles long! Isn't that amazing?

And now, we wrap up our journey with the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt. It was built for King Khufu in Egypt, and no one knows how it was accomplished. I hope you enjoyed our tour today! If you want to get Google Earth, click here.
