SSI Guide

Picture this: you've just made a new page on your site. Now you're ready to put it on your navbar. There's only one problem: you have tons of pages, and you have to add it to all of your pages!

Does the situation above happen to you a lot? If so, it can be avoided with something called SSI (Server Side Includes). It is very easy to do, and once it's set up, you can edit the navbars on every page of your site just by editing one file.

First, go into your site editor on any page and highlight every bit of coding before your content. Now, copy it, create a file called top.txt (Freewebs users should make a file called top.htm then rename it to top.txt), and paste into the file. After that, highlight everything below your content and do the same with a file called bottom.txt.

Now that your files are set up, go into your pages and delete everything before and after your content (don't delete your content, though!). If you are using normal HTML (no PHP), put this code above your content...

and this code below your content.

If you are using a host other than Freewebs, you will need to rename your pages with .shtm or .shtml. If you use PHP, the codes are different: this for the top...

and this for the bottom.

*Change the asterisks to question marks. Of course, your files will have to have .php after them for this to work. To edit your menu, go to the file where it's located (either top.txt or bottom.txt). It should show up on every page with the code. Now you will no longer have to spend lots of time editing your navbar!
